Unfortunately, most people take anti-inflammatory drugs called NSAIDs, instead. You know them as Motrin, Aleve and Advil - and there are hundreds of others on the market.

Instant Knee Arthritis Pain-Relief with Ice, Heat and Sprays
Ice or heat treatments and arthritis pain-relief sprays may be old-fashioned treatments, but they are extremely effective in giving you instant knee pain-relief, if used the right way.
It is important to try and get yourself out-of-pain as quickly as possible in order to break your knee arthritis Inflammation Pain Cycle.
Most people with chronic knee pain feel better with ice treatments rather than with heat. Try both and see which is right for you.
Ice Your Knees for 15-20 minutes (max!), four to six times a day.

Heat
If you feel better with heat instead of ice then:
Apply moist heat for 20-30 minutes or more. Put a towel or thin cloth under your heat pack to prevent burns.
Use proper moist heat-packs - not dry heat from an electric heating pad.The water really helps transfer the heat to your knee(s).
Apply heat 4 to 6 times a day - then reduce the frequency as you feel better.
Wear compression sports apparel or knee sleeves to keep your knee(s) warm.
Add an instant knee pain-relief spray to your ice or heat treatments.
Instant Knee Pain-Relief Spray: Brazilian Heat
The best spray that I've found is called Brazilian Heat with 7% Brazilian menthol and other essential organic oils.
Spray it on 4 to 6 times a day (as needed) in combination with your ice or heat for maximum knee-pain relief.

Knee Arthritis Pain-Relief Exercises
Most of us have been told: You need to exercise; working out will help your knee pain. That's a great idea - except for the fact that most knee exercises hurt!
In fact, your knee pain fires a protective nerve circuit that stops you from contracting your thigh muscles (quadriceps). There are simple and easy knee exercises that avoid this protective circuit and help your knee muscles start contracting properly again.
Rule #1 - If an exercise or activity flares your knee pain - don't do it!
Bike Away Your Knee Pain
Biking is one of the best and most gentle ways to pump nutrient-rich joint fluid to your knee cartilage.
First, get on an exercise bike. Set the level at the lowest intensity. Then, just spin the pedals without any resistance. Please check that the seat height is such that, at the bottom of your rotation, your knee is almost-but-not-quite fully straight or extended. If that almost-straight leg position is still painful for your knee, lower the seat placement again. You should be able to spin the pedals with little or no effort - all you're trying to do, for now, is nourish your knee joints.
Tai Chi or Qi Gong
Both these ancient Chinese arts combine slow rhythmic movements with meditation. They help both your local knee pain and inflammation while boosting the painkillers (endorphins) in your brain. Tai Chi or Qi Gong are most effectivewhen done for 30-60 minutes, everyday.
Walking
Walking daily helps reduce inflammation and pain by gently moving your knees. Start slowly and see if you can build up to 30 minutes to 1 hour. Do not walk through pain, as that actually makes the Inflammation Pain Cycle worse.

Cortisone Injections - These are not recommended as first-line treatments because cortisone accelerates knee arthritis by turning off your cartilage cells.

Micro-Fracture Surgery - Do not get this type of surgery - the results have been poor! The author had one and would not recommend it to anyone
