Man "Cures" Knee Ligament Sprain - Avoids Wrong Surgery Again!

Once again RS, our 56 year old squash ( like racquetball) player, suffers another knee injury a year later to the same knee. He sees a doctor who prescribes anti-inflammatories and orders an MRI Scan. The MRI Scan shows a cartilage tear (medial meniscus).

RS is referred to an Orthropedic Surgeon who recommends an arthroscopy for partial meniscectomy.

RS wishing to avoid surgery consults me. A basic history and joint examination showed he suffered a knee sprain with a grade 2 medial collateral ligament tear.

The cartilage tear was a year old and not the cause of RS's new knee pain. The MRI Scan missed the torn ligament. So RS was being scheduled for the wrong operation because none of the doctors examined his knee properly or listened to his story.

This simple knee ligament injury diagnosis was medical school 101 - no MRI Scan needed. RS started on a conservative treatment course of flexion extension hinged knee brace, ice with compression, anti-inflammatories, physical knee therapy, and as he improved knee rehabilitation.

Three months later RS was knee pain free and back out playing. A happy ending to a potentially disasterous result. Here are the Knee Pain Relief Secrets from RS's Story: Always see a qualified doctor who takes a through history and examines your knee thoroughly before ordering any tests.

Do not trust your MRI Scan is accurate. Clinical studies show MRI Scans are at best 90% accurate - that means 1 out of 10 people get an incorrect diagnosis and treatment or worse the wrong knee surgery. this happens much more commonly that you'd believe.

My Advice - Try conservative treatment first if at all possible. RS successfully cured his knee ligament sprain without knee surgery.
